Performers interested in becoming part of the MDT family can audition three ways:  traditional group auditions, by appointment, or by video audition.

TRADITIONAL OPEN AUDITIONS

Group auditions are scheduled approximately six weeks prior to opening.  Rehearsal schedules are provided at auditions, and practices will begin shortly thereafter.  As with most theatre auditions, come prepared with 16 bars of music, not from the production, and preferably classical musical theatre.  It might be helpful to have a second song of a different style prepared, just in case.  You may also be asked to learn a song from the score with the accompanist.

AUDITIONS BY APPOINTMENT

Although we encourage performers to attend the open group auditions, we accept auditions by appointment.  This would need to be scheduled with the respective director or the artistic director.  Contact the office to schedule.

VIDEO AUDITIONS

Video auditions are accepted from performers who may not live in the immediate area.  Please submit a DVD or a youtube URL for our review.  Clearly state your name at the beginning of the video.  Singers should submit samples of an uptempo song and a ballad.  Dancers should submit samples of a ballet/lyrical combination and a jazz/hip-hop combination.

THE EDUCATION COMPONENT

The artistic staff of Myers Dinner Theatre is united in Arts Education.   We believe that if the process is correct, the product will be excellent.  Sharing theatre technique and history with each other and with the new generations is core to our work.

Challenging artists in new directions is also part of our mission.  We strive to provide a bridge between the being a student of theatre and being a professional performer.  Myers Dinner Theatre is considered Regional Theatre, which holds additional weight on a resume.  Letters of recommendation, career counseling, and networking add into the equation as well, and we are happy to provide these for our cast members.

Helping our performers become more well-rounded in their skills is a goal for our artistic staff.  Singers learn improved dance and movement skills, and dancers find their voice here in this encouraging, country setting.  The intimate dinner theatre venue means we do not use microphones.  Shows are performed to tracks, so the music is consistent.

Learn to tap, play an instrument in the show, perform a new skill, grow and develop as an artist.  We are developing the Wabash Valley Arts Project, to encourage artistic renewal and collaboration in the Indiana/Illinois heartland.  Come be a part of it!
